Caring for your Merino Wear

Merino is a wonderful natural fibre that is so adaptable for our babies. Warm in winter, breathable in summer. Buying these quality products are a great investment but, are you caring for your Merino wear items properly? Merino does cost more than your standard cotton clothing so, to get the most out of your investment, a few easy tips can be followed as below:

Machine Washing
  • Always use a Wool Wash Detergent
Standard laundry powders contain enzymes and bleaches that can attack woollen fibres and fabrics. Your items are more likely to thin and develop holes
  • Use the Wool or Delicate Wash Cycle
  • Be aware that when using a Warm Wash, some machines fill the tub with hot water first which is also damaging to woollen fibres
  • When washing with other items, make sure all domes, zips and velcro seams are securely closed. Velcro is not Merino's friend!
  • Do not use bleach
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight

Hand Washing
  • Fill the tub with water prior to adding your Merino and Woollen items
Avoid letting the water run directly onto the garment
  • Use the same temperature for both washing and rinsing
  • Do not use bleach
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight

Airing items regularly will avoid the need for constant washing. Varying brands and washing instructions will also differ so always check your clothing care labels.
